Yoga Therapy
Relax in A State of Happiness for Autistic Kids
Have you ever had the chance to work with autistic kids on and off the yoga mat?
Autism affects about 1 in 45 children, ages 3 through 17 in the USA.
I have had the amazing opportunity to work with autistic kids through wonderful organizations in the Bay Area called
Turn About For Autism & Jeena.
Ever since my first yoga class with my first Jeena yogi, Yash, I have learned so much about myself and yoga.
Every session, I see the power of yoga transmitted through the students I work with. My heart is filled with joy and gratitude when I see simple breathing exercise I share with the kids help them to connect with their inner self and stay calm within it. The relaxed and smiling faces I see during and at the end of each class are the best rewards I can ask for as a yoga teacher.
Yoga poses help kids to discovery new motor skills and body sensations which in turn helps them gain self-esteem and self-understanding. For special needs kid, it also helps to melt away the stress and anxiety in a way that allows them to be the master of their own senses.
I often ask my students how they are feeling after each class, and the answer I get most often is
"I feel happy".
When I hear that from the Jeena kids, I know it is a
true expression of feeling from the heart
and I am in return the happiest and proudest yoga teacher because of it.
